Top Five Tuesday | Anticipated 2018 Releases

Now that the best and worst of 2017 is out the way, I thought it’d be fun to talk about those coming soon. As someone who’s usually behind on book releases, it’ll also help me look out for some interesting books to read as soon as they’re released. It’d be nice to be in the loop!

The Smoke Thieves | Sally Green

The Smoke Thieves

Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult
Released: 4th May 2018

A princess, a traitor, a hunter and a thief. Four teenagers with the fate of the world in their hands. Four nations destined for conflict.
In Brigant, Princess Catherine prepares for a loveless political marriage arranged by her brutal and ambitious father. In Calidor, downtrodden servant March seeks revenge on the prince who betrayed his people. In Piroria, feckless Edyon steals cheap baubles for cheaper thrills as he drifts from town to town. And in the barren northern territories, thirteen-year-old Tash is running for her life as she plays bait for the gruff demon hunter Gravell.
As alliances shift and shatter, and old certainties are overturned, our four heroes find their past lives transformed and their futures inextricably linked by the unpredictable tides of magic and war. Who will rise and who will fall? And who will claim the ultimate prize?

I’m a huge Sally Green fan, having a deep love for The Half Bad Trilogy since the release of book one, and I’m ecstatic to hear the release of something new. Plus, the cover looks gorgeous!

The Witch Doesn’t Burn in this One | Amanda Lovelace

THe Witch doesn't burn In this oneGenre: Poetry, Feminism
Released: 5th April 2018

The witch: supernaturally powerful, inscrutably independent, and now – indestructible. These moving, relatable poems encourage resilience and embolden women to take control of their own stories. Enemies try to judge, oppress, and marginalise her, but the witch doesn’t burn in this one.

Amanda Lovelace’s poetry has been a huge inspiration for me since reading The Princess Saves Herself in this One early last year. Every poem I’ve read by her has been empowering and beautiful, and I’m so excited for this collection! I adore anything vaguely referencing witchcraft, so even the title of this book delights me!

The Wicked Deep | Shea Ernshaw

The wicked deepGenre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Paranormal, Witches
Released: 6th March 2018

Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow…
Where, two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town.
Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbour and pulling them under.

Like many locals, seventeen-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of the sisters’ return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives; unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into.
Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters.
But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she will be forced to choose: save Bo, or save herself.

Okay, this book sounds perfect for me. Witchcraft, town myths and death; I need this story now. The cover looks so beautiful too, and I can almost guarantee it’ll be one of those books I have multiple editions of.

White Rabbit | Caleb Roehrig

white rabbitGenre: Young Adult, Mystery, LGBT
Released: 24th April 2018

Rufus Holy is having the worst night of his life. It begins with the reappearance of his ex-boyfriend, Sebastian – the guy who stomped his heart out like a spent cigarette. Just as Rufus is getting ready to move on, Sebastian turns up out of the blue, saying they need to “talk”. Things couldn’t get much worse, right?
But then Rufus gets a call from his sister April, begging for help. And then he and Sebastian find her, drenched in blood and holding a knife, beside the dead body of her boyfriend, Fox Whitney.
April swears she didn’t kill Fox – but Rufus knows her too well to believe she’s telling him the whole truth. April has something he needs, though, and her price is his help. Now, with no one to trust but the boy he wants to hate yet can’t stop loving, Rufus has one night to prove his sister’s innocence… or die trying.#

More death! Yet with an added mystery and LGBT characters. I’ve been scouring the anticipated 2018 releases lists on Goodreads for a good LGBT story, and this one caught my eye. The story line sounds so interesting, and it seems like it’ll have some good development between Rufus and Sebastian!

Black Wings Beating | Alex London

Black Wings BeatingGenre: Young Adult, Fantasy, LGBT
Released: 9th October 2018

The people of Uztar have long looked to the sky with hope and wonder. Nothing in their world is more revered than the birds of prey and no one more honored than the falconers who call them to their fists.
Brysen strives to be a great falconer – while his twin sister, Kylee, rejects her ancient gifts for the sport and wishes to be free of falconry. She’s nearly made it out, too, but a war is rolling toward their home in the Six Villages, and no bird or falconer will be safe.
Together the twins must journey into the treacherous mountains to trap the Ghost Eagle, the greatest of the Uztari birds and a solitary killer. Brysen goes for the boy he loves and the glory he’s long craved, and Kylee to atone for her past and to protect her brother’s future. But bot hare hunted by those who seek one thing: power.

I’ve been searching for a new LGBT Fantasy to delve into for so long, and this sounds like such an interesting concept. Also, yet another gorgeous cover to add to my collection.
