Telling Tales | Publication Day!

As someone who’s aspired to be a writer from such an early age, it’s insane to say that I’ve finally reached a publication date for work of my own.

Within my University, every year an email revolves around about the Electric Reads Young Writers’ Anthology, and after a friend of mine was featured in last years, I thought I’d give it a try and send in a piece I was proud of.

About the Anthology:Young Writers Anthology
According to Electric Reads, they look for the best young writers in Britain, between the ages of 16-25, to feature in their annual anthology. They’re committed to support exciting new talent since its launch in 2015, and their anthologies have been made available at Amazon, Waterstones and Barnes & Noble each year. Each piece is accompanied with a short bio of the writer and a critical methodology from the author discussing their writing process, which is a great opportunity for writers to introduce themselves to a wider audience and allows them to explain their ideas behind the pieces.
Submissions are between 500-5,000 words of prose, yet can be an extract from an extended piece of writing. All genres are considered, as the main criteria is that the writing is fresh and engaging.
More information on this years anthology is available here.

My submission experience:
The piece I chose to submit was an autobiographical piece I wrote during a Life Writing module last semester. Entitled ‘Taming The Creature’, it explores a teenagers life up until the present as she discovers and accepts her sexuality.
After submitting the piece, I heard nothing until being notified that I was shortlisted and was asked to provide proof of being a British citizen, a short bio of myself (written in 3rd person) and a critique of my writing process. The next email was confirmation that my story had been selected, with edited proofs of my piece and specifics on when the anthology will be available for publication.

The Young Writers’ Anthology 2017 is currently available on Amazon here for Kindle (£8.99), and paperback editions are planned for release tomorrow.
