It’s been so long since I’ve had the chance to do one of these posts! Thank you so much to the lovely Windowsill Books for the nomination, your blog is definitely one of my favourites and I’ve really enjoyed answering your super creative questions. For those who aren’t following, I highly recommend their posts! They’re always such entertaining and insightful reads.

Anyways, onto the post!

Windowsill Books’s Questions

1. If you could be any book character, which character would you be?

This question is definitely the one that took the longest to decide on, being able to compose an entire essay on characters I’d love to have even the slightest similarities of.
My first thought was Noah Czerny from The Raven Cycle, having fallen in love with his life. Although, not a particularly positive existence, decomposing whilst already dead sufficing enough trauma from anyone. However, it’s interesting. Plus, I’m a sucker for anything freaky looking, and I’d love something like that about me.
My second choice is Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series. I adore Luna. She’s beautiful, intelligent, courageous and has the most quirky fashion sense. Plus, her creative mind is definitely something I need, loving her way of thinking and would love to share some qualities with her. Although, she’s not understood by her peers, she never seems to let that stop her, and I think we can all learn something from Luna Lovegood.

2. What is your all-time favourite classic Disney movie?

Another tough question! This took a lot of thinking whilst nursing a drink in Starbucks, yet I’ve managed to limit the list down to three; Peter Pan – one I’ve loved since I was a young child, and now have a small tattoo dedicated to, Mulan – I have so many fond memories of watching this film, and is also a family favourite, and Moana – I love the music and animation of this film so much. Everything about it is beautiful.

3. Someone offers you a thousand dollars to re-read this book, and your response is, “No way! There is not enough money in the world to persuade me to read that book again.” What book is it?

Probably Show Stopper by Hayley Barker. I had such high expectations for this book, and the hype surrounding it didn’t help; there was even staff recommending it in my favourite bookstore! Yet, it was such a disappointment. I really didn’t enjoy it at all, and I hate feeling that way about creators.

4. Favourite magic system in literature that isn’t Harry Potter?

Most magic systems beside Harry Potter that I’ve read are usually very negative and pressuring, so personally I wouldn’t say I have a favourite. However,  the idea of receiving three gifts in the Half Bad trilogy is an interesting take on magic.

5. What is your favourite book trope and what is your least favourite book trope?

My personal favourite is definitely the ‘Enemies-turn-lovers’ trope, mostly famously used in Young Adult by Rainbow Rowell’s Carry On. I adore this trope, being a sucker for a lot of arguing which helps them realise their feelings for another. It can be cringy, and laughably cliche, yet I love it.
However, my least favourite trope is probably when mental illness is used as a quirk for a character. As someone who has struggled with mental health throughout my entire life, any story in which a character has a disorder used in such a way is immediately ceremonially thrown away. I have no tolerance for the misuse of mental illness in literature.

6. Name a time when the couple you shipped didn’t get together in a book/series, or when the person you rooted for in the love triangle didn’t get the girl/boy.

This would probably have to go to Fred Weasley and Angelina Johnson from Harry Potter. Although, it was hinted in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when Fred asked Angelina to the Yule Ball, there was very little talk of them after that. I thought they were cute together, the best relationships of the series seeming to come from those who irritate each other yet still care deeply, and firmly believe that they could have been happy together if the unmentionable events of Deathly Hallows didn’t happen. I won’t mention the atrocity of the 19 years later and the future of Angelina’s love life, feeling as if I could dedicate an entire post on why I hate nearly all the couples there.

7. Would you rather have the ability to fly or own a dragon that could fly you everywhere?

This question would probably depend on societies views of dragons at the time. If having a dragon as a form of transportation is the norm, then I’d love to own a dragon – although, I have nowhere to keep it; my garden is very small. However, if the view on dragons is fairly negative, I’d have to make sure it would be able to magically conceal itself for me to own one, otherwise I’d have to settle with being able to fly. This choice, however, poses the question of how I’d be able to fly. Pixie dust, wings, or something else? Because, then I’d have to make sure it wouldn’t make any difficult lifestyle changes, such as; where do the wings go? Do I have an infinite amount of dust? How high can I get before it becomes difficult to breathe?
…I’ve thought way too deeply about this question.

8. You are at the movie theatre, do you choose sweet or salty snacks?

I’m one of those people that personally don’t eat anything whilst in the cinema, unless the film is an important exception. (Marvel, DC, or a Video Game adaptation) However, I do prefer sweet popcorn to salty.

9. Favourite Musical?

One of my all time favourite musicals is Singing In The Rain. The soundtrack is one I always listen to when on a gloomy journey to university, always managing to cheer me up, and the cast definitely have a special place in my heart.
I also love the Broadway adaptation of Matilda, having seen it last year in London and I’m hoping to go again sometime soon. The songs are so catchy and fun, and the entire experience is just incredible.

10. What did you name your car? If you don’t have a car or didn’t name your car, what would you name it?

I’m unable to drive, however, I did name my Mom’s car once; Sheila. I can’t remember why, but it was apparently important at the time.

11. Your fairy godmother appears to you in a dream, explaining that she has gifted you with the power to change the last chapter of any book. Your eyes flick open and you immediately jump out of bed. You run to your bookshelf and pick up which book?

Probably Half Lost by Sally Green. Although, I found the ending to this trilogy beautiful, I’d alter the heartbreaking scenario in a heartbeat. Gabriel and Nathan deserve happiness, a chance to follow their dreams and get a place together away from war, and I’d love the chance to read a cute chapter exploring their relationship more.
